Introduction to Glass Blowing
This one-day class is a fun introduction to glass bead and pendant making. You will work with a beautiful assortment of glass rods to make basic bead shapes and more on a small torch. Learn how to operate and understand all lampworking/glassblowing equipment, and techniques to help you safely work glass and operate a shop at home. We will cover all necessary glass blowing techniques and learn how to apply these skills to a finished form.
1st hour: Introduction to basic tools, safety and equipment. How to operate regulators and torches, some glass history and an introduction to the glass blowing experience in general.
2nd hour: Basic glass techniques including shaping, gathering, cutting, bending and all techniques related to prepping colour and rod.
3rd hour: Basic bead construction, learning the necessary techniques and skills to successfully create all kinds of glass art.
4th hour – Time to put all this information to use, enhancing your knowledge of different types of patterns, colour uses, shapes and a number of beading techniques helping you to create what you want. Also, there will be numerous demonstrations and students will leave with a piece of Irie Island glass product to take home as well as your own masterpieces.
