Why do my papers stick together? How can I prevent this?

November 25, 2013

"I took a pack of papers with me camping this weekend and found that all of the papers were glued together.  Totally ruined!  What happened??"

That sucks when it happens. It doesn't happen very often, but it does throw a wrench into the rest of your day!    Anyways, yes, there is a reason!

First thing on the chopping block - I'm assuming that this pack of papers you had were likely hemp-based, a thin brand of paper.  The second thing - I'm assuming that you went camping somewhere on the humid side?

These are the two things you need to be mindful of when you're transporting your precious rolling skins!  Hemp-based papers use a lighter, more organic form of glue compared to the thick, bleached paper brands.  So, if the relative humidity surrounding your thin papers gets too high, it can easily be enough to cause the glue on every single sheet to activate.  It's unfortunate when that level of humidity hits, because once it happens there sadly isn't much you can do to save your papery friends.  For future reference, though, keep your papers stowed away in some form of sealed container or smelly proof bag!
